Tain Golf Club is a beautiful 18 hole links golf course designed by Old Tom Morris in 1890 in the Royal Burgh of Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland. Tain’s fortune is that so many of Old Tom’s original holes survive.
Five Morris holes remain in each half. Going out, these are the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 9th. Coming home, they are the 10th, 14th, 15th, 16, and 17th. Indeed, the 17th hole is rated probably the finest of all Tom Morris short holes anywhere. Not surprisingly, therefore, Tain is fondly referred to as Old Tom Morris’s Northern Jewel, which treasures the Grand Old Man of Golf as its founding genius.
Only a forty-minute drive from Inverness, Tain Golf Club is in a sheltered position giving favourable golfing conditions most of the year. Boasting a championship length course and designed by Old Tom Morris in 1890, Tain Golf Course overlooks the Dornoch Firth and arguably offers one of the best settings imaginable in the Highlands for a round of golf.
Apart from the golf course, Tain is famous for Glenmorangie malt whisky and visitors are very welcome to tour the Distillery. Other local enterprises where visitors are welcome include The Tain Pottery, whose stoneware pottery is well used in the clubhouse and Highland Fine Cheeses who make Crowdie.
