Twa Bridges Open Golf Challenge
Sunday 3rdMay, 2020
Two highland golf clubs, Carrbridge and Abernethy at Nethy Bridge are looking to make history in 2020
by hosting the first ever double-nine Open golf competition in Scotland on Sunday, 3rd May.
Aptly named the “Twa Bridges” Open, golfers are invited to take on the challenge of playing 18 holes over
two 9 holes courses, Carrbridge and Nethy Bridge, all in one day!
Each of the clubs are members of the Golf Highland High9s initiative and located in the Cairngorms
National Park, both with ancient stone bridges at the heart of each village.
Willie MacKay of Golf Highland Board is quoted as saying “the longest drive in the two club High9s
Speyside golf competition will be from the 9th green to the 10th tee, as players will be packing their
golf bags and trolleys into their cars and “driving” to the next course to play their second 9 holes of
this unique 18 hole two course event”!
Golfers will find their opening 9 holes at Nethy Bridge quite different from their second 9 holes at
Carrbridge! No matter how the golf goes players can be assured of a warm welcome and spectacular scenery.
The stableford competition is open to adults and juniors with a maximum handicap of 36. Green fee
£20/adult and £10/junior (up to 16 years) with reduced rates for club members. Prizes for the winner,
second and third based on the combined stableford score over both courses.
Both clubs have actively engaged with a range of Scottish Golf initiatives over the last two years including
visitor marketing and have been encouraged by Roy McPherson, Regional Development Officer (North) who said:
“Scottish Golf have been impressed with recent commitment of Abernethy GC (locally known as Nethy Bridge)
and Carrbridge GC to grow their clubs. The combined 9-hole competition is a great example of a collaboration
to combine resources and create and innovative new playing format to increase participation”.
The club Captains and, team of helpers are excited to be part of this unique golf Open and even, the caterers
are planning a menu that will keep golfers “fuelled” over the two courses!
Carrbridge Captain, Scott Henderson “This is a new decade and we are delighted to be organising with our neighbouring club at Nethy Bridge , the first-ever double 9-hole Open challenge in Scotland and, possibly the first of its kind in the world!
Abernethy Captain, Rona Smith “I am delighted and excited that Abernethy and Carrbridge Golf Clubs have joined forces to co-host the “Twa Bridges” competition. This is a unique event, set in the scenic Highlands, will offer challenging golf, friendly competition, good food and great prizes…a grand day out!
For golfers enjoying a staycation in the Highlands, there is a wide choice of accommodation in Carrbridge and Nethy Bridge or closeby. From traditional coaching inn, bed & breakfasts/guest houses, self catering, air B&B to hotels.
