The Club
This beautiful seaside course, the most northerly 18 hole links on the British Mainland, is to be found in a spectacular setting alongside Sandside Bay in the village of Reay, 11 miles west of Thurso, on the picturesque North Coast 500 road route. The course provides commanding views of the Pentland Firth and to Orkney beyond. Reay is a true example of a links course, as you would expect when the legendary James Braid had a hand in its design and its location calls for real shot making.
The par 69 layout has excellent contoured greens providing enjoyable and challenging golf for high and low handicap players alike. The renowned golf course architect Donald Steele is quoted as saying of Reay, ‘In a different location, it would enjoy worldwide acclaim’. The 595yds, Par 5 4th hole ‘Sahara’ requires a solid tee shot and fairway wood to set up an approach to a sheltered green bounded by the Sandside Burn. Reay’s signature hole, the 198yds Par 3, 7th hole ‘Pilkington’ is a beautiful short hole played across the ‘Reay Burn’ to a raised green. The two tiered 18th green protected by its two spectacle bunkers, provides a formidable finish to the round. Our Clubhouse provides great views overlooking the whole course and a warm welcome is assured. Our modest Green Fee allows the visitor to play all day and our quiet location makes booking usually unnecessary.
