GOLFERS from across the Highlands are ready to battle it out in the rearranged Champion of Champions event at the Kings Golf Club in Inverness on Sunday. (August 30)

The original event planned for earlier in the season was washed out by torrential rain.  Now nearly 50 golfers, representing 24 clubs which are members of the Golf Highland group, will tee up at a tournament, with fundraising on the day benefiting the Highland Hospice.

Neil Hampton, general manager at Royal Dornoch and Golf Highland chair, said: “It was very unfortunate that the weather put paid to the original event in the spring, especially as we have gone on to enjoy a nice summer in the region.

“But we were determined to make sure it went ahead, with member clubs eager to put forward their 2025 Men and Women’s champions to compete for the Willie MacKay Cup and support such a great cause.”

Former Royal Dornoch captain Willie presented the trophy last year.

A keen supporter of golf in the Highlands, Willie was awarded a Lifetime Honour Award by Scottish Golf earlier this year for his contribution to the sport in the region over five decades.

A Stableford event will also take place on the day, with entrants nominated by their clubs.
